Pins and Bones with DUIK in After Effects
is ot possible to import vector illusration into vector illustration in toon boom?
Yooo. I follow you on TikTok and i'm always waiting for your next "Hawt Tip". Haven't seen one for awhile. Glad i found you here. Love your tips and your happy way you explain them. Sub'd
Hey matey! Lovely to have you here. I'm aiming for a TikTok a week but you know, it doesn't always work out 🙃 Thank you for your kind words!
hmm i tried following this and this video too ruclips.net/video/ESOCvpfrGb8/видео.html but after auto rig, my layer/hand/tentacle doesnt follow/move at all is it because im using a shape from after effect using pen tool and not some actual files outside AE imported in?
Best tutorial i ever seen, thanks so much
Thanks for the tutorial. To import vector drawing from illustrator to toonboom, maintaining layer names, order, size and color you just need to save you AI file to version "Ilustrator CS". Import it to library in toonboom. If you don't save in version CS all the layers will be compressed into one single layer in toonboom and each frame from AI will be placed in a different drawing substitution.
Oh brilliant! Thanks so much
Wow, the best basic tutorial I found on RUclips. No sound but that's actually the plus. I prefer on-screen explanation like this.
Thanks so much matey! I'm glad to be of assistance :)
what?
duik isn't free, you need to pay to use it !
It's a pay What You Can model which for students and those just getting into the craft is "free whenever and wherever you can" I do hope once folks have had a play and started using it more day-to-day they would go back and offer a donation as is available on their website

i love u man
"horribly" great and amazing tutorial. :D Thxn for help!
Thanks!
Thank you
Magic bones! Thanks for sharing this trick
Thanks for this! Late night working and this was very helpful to my sleepy brain
your trying
amazing video, thanks!
Thanks this is a cool video, One thing also helps, adjust the preview size of the layers to navigate and identify the layers content easily, if you set the size to around 50-60 points.
your tutorial is very helpful.
In 2021 I don't have to option to import as bitmap drawing, is there a way to fix this?
Could you do a full tutorial for exporting vector characters from illustrator to toon boom and then show us how to rig it?
Importing AI assets into TB maintains the vectors. They are not rasterized. Top Secret Hint: Contour Editor.
do you have any video about face controllers ?
Nothing yet, but it'd be with Duik Bassel. There's some exceptional tutes aready out there on face rigging this way
@@horribleHorris thanks i'll see if i find it
@@horribleHorris thanks i'll see if i find it.
very good the video thanks was that point that was in doubt

Хороший канал! С меня подписка)
Thanks dude!
The leg bone's connected to the knee bone ahah good one
Great content tutorial, if you add a voice over it would be easier to follow. Anyway thanks for sharing
Absolutely agree! On my list of Isolation tasks haha
hey i really liked ur post...ur the only person who is giving actual detail about 2.5 d ... thanks a lot..
Oh! My pleasure! I'm glad to help ☺️
This was very helpful thank you!!! Do you have plans on doing some more advance tutorial when it comes to rigging using Duik? Just like the rigging concept from SPINE 2D or Dragon Bone Pro.
Thanks man! No organised plans as yet but lots of vague ones. I hadn't considered working with those other tools though, great idea! I'll add it to the list. Thanks for your support ☺️
Sooo, you use photoshop to draw THEN toon boom to animate ? To storyboard for example u draw in photoshop too or directly in toon boom ? A little confuse with all the software and the workflow...
Hey ! Love your art style
Thanks so much!
may i ask why you cant expand object after adding auto-rig and ik on selected 2 puppet pins but you can when you put on object 3 or more puppets pins?
Oo, I actually don't know. I didn't think you could expand at all once pins are in. You can do some tricksy, precomping to get around changes but if you've found a way to expand with three pins or more, well played! It could be to do with the new Puppet Pin tool in recent After Effects versions. You can change the type of mesh in the drop down once you've applied the effect. That might be the trick you're looking for.
dude please help me when add there more than 2 puppet position pin and click on add bones as a result i get only one add bone sign
Sorry i didn't see this sooner! I'm not a hundred percent clear on the issue but were you creating bones while only one pin was selected? That would do it. The other would be if you've got two layers with pins and bones. If you don't give each pin a unique name before you make them bones, AE will read it as just one and pop them on top of each other.
Thanks for this tutorial. Your character is really cool, it has a nice colour palette :)
Thank you!
Arr cool pirate?
Thank you.....
nice, thank you
Thank You.
That was really cool tutorial. Wish it had a voiceover too
Good call! I have grand plans for 2020 ;)
Yeah be nice to follow some of the smaller details and how to. Great stuff tho
please would like to know what application i can use for this animation design
The assets we created in Illustrator but there's no reason you couldn't do the whole thing directly into After EFfects.
awesome
worked great, and was simple enough, thank you!
the pin puppet system dose'nt work on vector objects?
It certainly should! These are vector objects. Unless you mean shape layers built inside After Effects. If you want to do it that way, it's best to precomp the shape layer and you're good to go :D
Thank you… all the other tutorials only showed putting bones on separate segmented puppets or using Duik 15. Thank you
I LIVE for the old DUIK, nice a simple :)
Thank you so much. I love it.
Great tutorial. Keep doing more.
Thanks, there's a Tail with Fk and Follow trought way to do it but i don't know how. It looks way easier once setup. Here's a link : rainbox-dev.github.io/DuAEF_Duik/Guides/Duik/autorig/#fk-with-follow-through-overlap-and-drag-tails
Good video but definitely needs boosting the volume or you need to speak up! It’s very quiet !
Thanks Chris - pretty sure my playback has been buggered for ages and I didn't realise! Much appreciated feedback.
